Over 70,00 fans have signified their support for the petition aiming for Keanu Reeves to be Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019.

His stellar performances in his recent films John Wick 3: Parabellum, Always Be My Maybe and Toy Story 4, led one fan to start a petition to aims to give Keanu a top honor.

The revival of the actor’s career has paved the way for past stories highlighting his acts of generosity to resurface and trend.

One video showed the actor offering his seat to a woman while on the New York subway train. Another story tells of how Keanu gave up millions for his work on The Matrix sequels so the team who does the special effects could get higher pay. A 2015 report also revealed how Keanu waited in the rain for 20 minutes to get to the wrap-up party for his film Daughter of God.

Last month, a fan named Jackson Beem initiated a petition on Change.org for Keanu Reeves to be hailed as this year’s Time Magazine People of the Year, an honor conferred to prominent profiles in the society including former US Presidents John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

In his petition, Mr. Beem highlighted Keanu’s generous acts including secretly giving donations to children’s hospitals and charities. The fan further emphasized that the actor performs acts of kindness to common people without asking for anything in return. Mr. Beem went on to call Keanu “the most wholesome person alive”.

As of writing, the petition already has 159,000 supporters. Some of the signers’ reason for supporting the petition include:
